Dubai: working Most people come to Dubai with a job but it is possible to find work once you are out here. If you are planning to work, you will need to have a visa and a labour card. Your company’s PRO (Public Relations Officer) should help you to organise this. You will need your birth certificate, your marriage certificate if you’re married, and your education certificates, all of which should be legally attested and translated, as well as your passport and photographs.
However, if you are self employed you will need to have a trade licence in order to work legally. There are several ways of doing this and you may need to conduct some research to work out the best option for you. Freezones offer trade licence services and they all have different rates. In order to qualify for a trade licence you must have a bachelors’ degree certificate. Which freezone you work under will be determined by the type of work you do. For example, if you’re a marketing consultant you could work through Media City. If you’re a lecturer then Knowledge Village would be a good starting point. There are several setup companies that can help you start your company and organise your licences and visa. Visit www.uaefz.com to find out about freezones in the UAE. |
