The McClures at home...What does “home” mean to you? A house, a home, bricks and mortar? After eight houses in eight years, my home has to be where my family is. Sounds romantic but with a couple of toddlers I can’t say I ever have time to sit with my feet up, reading the paper with a vat of coffee by my side. That’s the ideal, isn’t it? The last time I got to sit still for five minutes I had fallen down the stairs and couldn’t get off the floor.
So what’s this blog for? We live in a World where time doesn’t stand still. Reaching out to family and friends over different timezones can be difficult. I have been a technological sceptic, I have to admit. But by embracing my geeky side, I created a home for my ramblings and photos, an archive for my memories, an outlet for my observations, and finally a gift for my children who have been dragged around the World for most of their lives. I want them to have an insight into how the World ticks, and their place in it, when they are old enough to read this. This blog now has a wider reach though. It's for the traveller who needs inspiration and information, the expat looking for a supportive community and the armchair traveller who wants to be transported to new places with their feet up. Welcome. We'd love to hear from you. We welcome your comments and questions, and also have lively chats on Facebook and Twitter too. Meet the family...Helen: known for being sport mad (all sports), running long distances (just mad) and being competitive (in everything).
Andy: known for having an American accent (he's British), a sense of humour that confuses non-Brits and annoying his wife by TV channel hopping. Madeleine (age 9): known for her incessant questions and energy. She either wants to be doctor or a superhero when she grows up. Mammy and Daddy tell her this is the same thing. Tilda (age 6): known for singing incessantly and spending the last two years pretending to be a cat. She wants to be a princess when she grows up. Who are we?Family travels
This branch of the McClure family started its travels in the leafy lanes of Surrey, UK. Although running around the countryside kept us out of mischief, the wider World beckoned. This blog comes with a little health warning. While our travels might seem exciting, you might not want to follow us. We honeymooned in Cuba - and faced Hurricane Wilma, almost losing our rented Toyota Yaris in a mudslip. We backpacked around Vietnam and Morocco - both trips required thermals. At five months pregnant we made our final trip BC (before children) to Venice, where we found we'd booked our two hotels concurrently, instead of consecutively and were homeless at midnight. We're jinxed. But we learn and have fun. Now we're grown up and have two young girls. We want to show them the wonderful World we live in - not what muppets we are. Our travels are now centred around the countries we've lived in. But we're not nomads. The support of our family and friends anchors us, and provides a central point for us to spin around. Before we pull on our wellies and head back to our leafy country life, we're making the most of wearing flip flops, hiking boots or just chilling in our bare feet. This blog home to my observations, and will hopefully provide you with some travel inspiration.
I hope you enjoy it. Helen PS My views are my own. Travel and holiday are our middle names. For more information on trips to Indonesia, Jordan, the UAE, the USA (and the list goes on!) please visit the blog by clicking here. |
